Overview

Universal Security Instruments is a U.S.-based manufacturer and distributor of residential fire and smoke alarms. Founded in 1969, the Company has a 33-year heritage of developing innovative and easy-to-install safety devices, including smoke, fire and carbon monoxide alarms. Under a new management team (including the return of the former chairman) who took the reigns in late 2001, Universal Security has increased revenue and earnings while gaining significant new market share.

Universal Security owns a 50-percent share in a Hong Kong-based joint venture, which has a manufacturing facility in China. This joint venture gives Universal Security a key competitive advantage in the areas of pricing, costs and supply. Increased municipal regulations requiring smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to be installed present a lucrative opportunity for further increases in market share.
